چکیده

Materials and methods CWR22Rv1 cells (a castrate-resistant human PCa cell line) were treated with a polyherbal mixture of botanicals (PHBs) consisting of 10 herbal extracts [1] and we investigated whether inhibition of cell proliferation was linked to the activity of 5’adenosine monophosphate (AMP)activated protein kinase (AMPK), a potential tumor suppressor protein that functions as a central energy sensor within the cell. In addition, we investigated whether this inhibition was also the result of synergy among the bioactives as determined by the Chou-Talalay method [2].

The Role of Adiponectin in Prostate Cancer: A Narrative Review

Prostate cancer (PCa) is the most common type of cancer among men over 60 years old. The aggressiveness and mortality of PCa can be correlated with obesity. Adipose tissue-derived cytokines such as adiponectin may explain the correlation between PCa and obesity. Since the correlation between adiponectin and aggressive PCa is still not fully evaluated, we aimed to investigate the probable role o...

Crosstalk between the androgen receptor and beta-catenin in castrate-resistant prostate cancer.

The androgen-signaling pathway plays an important role in the development and hormonal progression of prostate cancer to the castrate-resistant stage (also called androgen-independent or hormone refractory). The Wnt pathway and beta-catenin contribute to prostate biology and pathology. Here application of Affymetrix GeneChip analysis revealed the genomic similarity of the LNCaP hollow fiber mod...

Hsp27 promotes insulin-like growth factor-I survival signaling in prostate cancer via p90Rsk-dependent phosphorylation and inactivation of BAD.

Hsp27 is highly expressed in castrate-resistant prostate cancer. Although its overexpression confers resistance to androgen ablation and chemotherapy, the mechanisms by which Hsp27 inhibits treatment-induced apoptosis are incompletely defined. Castrate-resistance often correlates with increased activity of autocrine and/or paracrine growth/survival stimulatory loops including the mitogen-activa...

Crosstalk between RON and androgen receptor signaling in the development of castration resistant prostate cancer

Castrate-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) is the fatal form of prostate cancer. Although reactivation of androgen receptor (AR) occurs following androgen deprivation, the precise mechanism involved is unclear. Here we show that the receptor tyrosine kinase, RON alters mechanical properties of cells to influence epithelial to mesenchymal transition and functions as a transcription factor to diff...

Inhibition of Stat5a/b Enhances Proteasomal Degradation of Androgen Receptor Liganded by Antiandrogens in Prostate Cancer.

Although poorly understood, androgen receptor (AR) signaling is sustained despite treatment of prostate cancer with antiandrogens and potentially underlies development of incurable castrate-resistant prostate cancer. However, therapies targeting the AR signaling axis eventually fail when prostate cancer progresses to the castrate-resistant stage. Stat5a/b, a candidate therapeutic target protein...
